February 1983 - Spiritual Sparks for Busy People™ by Shirley W. Mitchell, Sonlite Gospel During the month of February we turn our thoughts to love. February 14 is a very special day for sweethearts and lovers. This day belongs to hearts entwined! When I think of Valentines Day I think of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's poem HOW DO I LOVE THEE? How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My Soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of every day's Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints, - I love thee I the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! - and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death. God tells us in His love letter to us to love one another. I John 4:7 "... Let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God. and knoweth God.'' Love brings out the very best qualities in people. My daughter is engaged to be married. She is radiant! She is very happy, cheerful, and glowing with excitement! There is an aura of beauty around love.  I have never seen an ugly bride!!! As I experienced the spirit of love during the Christmas season, feeling the warmth of love all around me, I thought - if we were all filled with God's love, we would experience the spirit of Christmas every day of the year!!! Love is a very positive force. It produces great divine energy and enthusiasm!! I like the song "Love Makes the World Go Round"! Love truly does make the world go round. As we enjoy this special time of the year, Valentines Day, with its many expressions of love, let us remember that God is LOVE. (I John 4:8) I like Bill Gaither's song - "I am loved, I am loved, I can risk loving you." When we feel God's love wrapped around our lives, and feel this precious love surging up inside us, we are able to let this love flow out to others. If my column has touched you with creative energy and caused you to want to reach out and love, then you and I have truly communicated! Hopefully you will look inside yourself and see all the dazzling possibilities you have within you to love and realize you're sitting on the threshold of a great life adventure! March 1983 - Spiritual Sparks for Busy People™ by Shirley W. Mitchell, Sonlite Gospel Will March come in like a lion and go out like a lamb; or will it come in like a lamb and go out like a lion? Whatever the outcome, we know there will be howling winds and blustery weather somewhere in between. March 17, we celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the Irish! Almost every St. Patrick's Day, Jack and I are in the Chicago area for a National Wholesale Grocery Association Convention. Invariably we become caught up in the celebrations of St. Patrick's Day as the people of that area have great parades and turn Lake Michigan green! As I watched this big celebration I wondered why we celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Upon doing some research, I learned that we in America started celebrating Saint Patrick's Day in the year 1845 to honor the patron saint of Ireland. One of the legends is that he used the shamrock to illustrate the idea of the Holy Trinity. As I let my mind concentrate upon the Holy Trinity, God three in one - God the Father - God the Son - and God the Holy Ghost, I realized the importance of the Holy Trinity in my own life. The Holy Trinity gives me hope of life abundant and eternal. It also gives me love, joy and peace. The Holy Trinity is the fullness of my life! I am able to go into the Holy presence of my Abba Father, the creator and controller of the universe, through the door of Jesus Christ, my saviour and Lord! To be intimate with God is dynamite!! Before Jesus ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Heavenly Father, He said, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you ..." (Acts 1:8). The Holy Ghost guides my life, comforts me, and gives me power! I'm glad we celebrate Patrick's Day in America. Maybe on that day we will focus our attention upon the Holy Trinity! As you fly your kites in the March winds, wear your green shamrocks on Saint Patrick's Day and enjoy first day of Spring, remember God is ALIVE!! ENJOY THE SPRINGTIME WITH ME AS EVERYTHING ON EARTH SEEMS TO BE SHOUTING "I AM ALIVE"!!!

September 1983 - Spiritual Sparks For Busy People™ by Shirley W. Mitchell, Sonlite Gospel September is here!! I love the Fall season! Excitement rings in the air as the children go back to school, the marching bands fill the air waves with drum rolls; and the fans in the stands roar with excitement as their favorite quarterback makes that winning touchdown. The beauty of the Fall season is breath taking! The variety of color everywhere blows my mind! Wouldn't life be dull if everything was black and white? The Fall season inspires me to praise God for His beautiful colors! The cool crisp air puts a spring into my step and spirit! God is so precious to give us the variety of seasons. I feel like smiling at life during the month of September! Life is a mirror; smile at it and it will smile back at you! Our attitude about life makes a big difference in the way we live. I WILL MAKE SEPTEMBER BEAUTIFUL I will make September beautiful: I will love-God is love. I will make September beautiful: I will laugh-Laughter is the sunlight of the soul. I will make September beautiful: I will work-Labor is God's plan. I will make September beautiful: I will pray-Prayer is the highest form of communication. I will make September beautiful: I will play-Time for pleasure keeps one joyful. I will make September beautiful: I will mediatate on God's word-God will talk to me. Friends, during the month of September, smile at life with me!

November 1983 - Spiritual Sparks For Busy People™ by Shirley W. Mitchell, Sonlite Gospel HAPPY THANKSGIVING! It's the time of the year again for football and butterballs; family gatherings, reflection, and praise! As we feast around our wonderful Thanksgiving tables of plenty, this Thanksgiving Day, we will recognize God as our Abba Father with joyful praise! Thanksgiving and praise have a very definite, positive effect upon one's attitude. A joyful attitude has a very definite positive effect upon one's life. Praising and thanking God will be our motto for the month of November. Praising and thanking God for all his blessings will lead to victorious, joyful living! A garment of praise will change any person into a positive thinker! As we feast around our wonderful Thanksgiving tables of plenty, this Thanksgiving Day, with family and friends, we can say with David, "Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things!" On wings of praise we adore God for allowing us to live in this great country, America; for creating us special; loving us; and giving us our friends and family. On wings of praise we soar to His throne to thank Him for sending His Precious Son into the world so we might live abundantly and eternally! On wings of praise we love God for filling us with His Holy Spirit, so we are able to live joyfully in a world- on sin. "I WILL PRAISE YOU, 0 LORD, WITH ALL MY HEART; I WILL TELL OF ALL YOUR WONDERS. I WILL BE GLAD AND REJOICE IN YOU: I WILL SING PRAISE TO YOUR NAME, 0 MOST HIGH. (Psalm 9:1,2) Friends, praise and thanksgiving will open up the gates of heaven.       Let us PRAISE GOD all year, not just during the Thanksgiving Season!
